Who Can Donate Blood?
- Between 18 and 65 years old
- Weigh at least 50 kg (110 lbs)
- In good general health
- Have not donated blood in the last 3 months
- Have not had major surgery or illness in the past 12 months
The Donation Process
The actual blood draw takes only 8–10 minutes. Before donation, a nurse will check your blood pressure, pulse, haemoglobin levels, and ask a few health questions. Afterwards, you will rest for 10–15 minutes and receive refreshments. The whole process takes about 45 minutes from start to finish.
Is It Safe?
Absolutely. Professional blood banks use sterile, single-use equipment for every donation. There is no risk of contracting any disease. Your body replaces the donated blood volume within 24 hours and the red blood cells within 4–6 weeks.
